Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - When the recession ends, some experts say the travel and tourism industry might lead the way. If so, Syracuse could be well-positioned. The Convention & Visitors Bureau released the results of a $350,000+ marketing campaign Friday.
Commercials aired last year in Albany, Scranton and Ottawa Canada, in a targeted marketing campaign designed to sell Central New York to out of town visitors. Research results released Friday say these ads did their job: prompting 36,000 more trips to Syracuse from those three markets.
The ad campaign, which also included internet banners and newspaper inserts, cost almost $360 thousand. The study shows visitors spent $11 in Syracuse for each ad dollar that was spent.
The money was raised with an Occupancy Tax in Onondaga County.
